Folkemøde event to gather support for headspace center on Bornholm
The need and the will are there, says Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, founder and patron of headspace Denmark. Now the effort must be stepped up a gear– with the help of local stakeholders.
headspace Denmark, the counseling service for young people between 12–25 years old, has been working for several years to open a center on Bornholm. Now the effort needs to be stepped up a gear, which is why headspace's founder and former Prime Minister Poul Nyrup Rasmussen invites to a dialog meeting in Gudhjem on the occasion of Folkemødet.
Poul Nyrup Rasmussen says:
”Folkemødet is about all people in Denmark, including children and young people. We know that there is a need for headspace on Bornholm. Also from our local work in the MindU initiative, where young people get help during their confirmation preparation to talk about what's difficult. Young people talk about low self-esteem, pressure to perform and family tensions. These are all issues that young people can't necessarily talk about with mom and dad over dinner, with others at school or with their teacher. But they can at headspace.”
When it comes to finances, the local municipality usually finances half of the cost of establishing a new headspace center. If the municipality is financially strapped, it is possible to break ground for a new headspace center with support from private companies, citizens and foundations.
And it's an opportunity that headspace would like to discuss with local interested parties.
Poul Nyrup Rasmussen says:
”At headspace, our ambition is for all children and young people to have someone to talk to when they hit bumps in the road of life - especially in financially strained municipalities where young people are often more vulnerable. In Lolland Municipality and Guldborgsund Municipality, we have succeeded in kick-starting headspace centers with an extraordinary effort from local actors. Bornholm's young people also need early and preventive help. We know that the will is there on Bornholm, and hopefully the island's young people will soon be able to benefit from our anonymous, free and easily accessible services.”
The dialog meeting about the establishment of headspace Bornholm will take place at Jantzens Hotel in Gudhjem on Friday 13 June from 9.30 am–11.00 Registration is still open for registrations.
