H. M. Queen Mary helped make the opening of headspace Tårnby something very special
Yesterday was a very special day. We opened headspace Denmark's 38th center - this time in Tårnby on Amager. H. M. Queen Mary took part in the celebrations and helped cut the red ribbon for Amager's new shelter for children and young people.
Upon arrival, the Queen was warmly welcomed by a student from FGU Hovedstaden, who presented her with a beautiful bouquet. Center Manager Marie Rosenkvist Jørgensen then showed the Queen around the newly refurbished premises in the former kindergarten, while the FGU students served cakes in the playground that could easily have made it into The Great Baking Contest.
Also on the tour was Mathilde, who in one of the interview rooms told The Queen her personal story about how headspace had helped her through a difficult period. It was a powerful moment where The Queen's commitment to the well-being of children and young people shone through in the conversation.
During the speeches that followed, we also heard wise, enthusiastic and inspiring words from our founder and patron Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, Mayor of Tårnby Allan S. Andersen and Chairman of the Board of The Social Network Benedikte Kiær.
And then, of course, we sang headspace's “national anthem” - Jens Rosendahl's “You came with all that was you” - with the sun as a spotlight from a cloudless sky.
A huge thank you to our talented youth advisors, Tårnby Municipality, FGU Hovedstaden, the city's other educational institutions, Rotary Denmark and everyone who came to celebrate the opening. A special thanks to Copenhagen Airports A/S for their generous donation to the new center.
The visit from the Queen, all the good conversations on the day and the commitment that the air was buzzing with, emphasizes the great will to fight for what matters most: that children and young people in Denmark thrive and have a place where they are met with openness, respect and presence.
Photographer on the day was the always brilliant Lars Svankjær.
