#SlukSammen launch marked in beautiful setting with speech from Poul Nyrup Rasmussen

The #SlukSammen campaign, which aims to get all Danes to turn off their screens for two hours on Tuesday August 20, was launched with a great speech, t-shirts and tips for offline activities.

On Tuesday, August 20, we encourage everyone in Denmark to turn off the screen for two hours from 18:00 to 20:00 and instead focus on intimacy and close relationships.

The campaign, called #SlukSammen, was launched on Monday and on Tuesday headspace invited the partners to a reception in artist Frederik Næblerød's studio. Poul Nyrup Rasmussen welcomed the invited guests with a few words about the background to the campaign:

”There is so much noise that prevents us from being present in the moment and with the central people in our lives. By taking the lead in turning off all that noise, we adults can give young people a chance to start thinking about who they really are and which way they should go. And then we have done something”

Participants included representatives from companies such as TikTok and Danish Cinemas, who have made their platforms available for the campaign, as well as campaign ambassadors such as TV host Ane Cortzen, former Olympic swimmer Sarah Bro and psychologist and researcher Aida Bikic, who have promised to spread the word.

Poul Nyrup Rasmussen ended his welcome by asking a few of the invited guests how they planned to spend their two mobile-free hours. ”Family fun”, ”sailing trip” and ”visiting parents” were some of the answers, while the CEO of Danish Cinemas, of course, is planning a trip to the movies.

Poul Nyrup Rasmussen also touched on how much harder it can be to switch off than to switch on. But on August 20, between 18:00 and 20:00, we're going for it:

”Now we turn off the lights together. And this is Denmark's chance to find out who we really are.”
