headspace Family is a free counseling service that aims to improve the well-being of children and young people aged 12-25 by giving their parents and close relatives the support and advice they need.

headspace Family offers a confidential space for individual conversations, family conversations, chat counseling and group counseling with a focus on mental well-being for everyone.

Relationships matter to young people

In headspace, we see that the topic of “relationships with friends and family” is one of the most popular topics among young people in headspace. We know from years of experience that the family plays a crucial role for the young person and their way out of unhappiness.

Individual Sessions

Are you a parent or close relative of a young person aged 12-25 who needs someone to talk to about the frustrations and challenges you experience as a relative of an unhappy young person?

Family Sessions

Family conversations focus on the family as a whole. When a young person is struggling, it is often connected to how the entire family functions. We provide a confidential space for family discussions, emphasising mental wellbeing for everyone.

Chat

The chat is for you as a parent or caregiver of a young person aged 12 to 25 who needs someone to talk to about the frustrations and challenges you experience as a caregiver of an unhappy young person. The chat is free, anonymous and you can use us as often as you like. You can also use our anonymous SMS counseling.

Group counseling

We offer group counseling both online and in person. The group is a space where you, as a parent or relative of a young person who is not thriving, together with others, have the opportunity for sparring and sharing experiences that create new perspectives and opportunities for action.Read more about where you can access the group program here.

Why headspace Family

Our conversation offerings in headspace Family are based on the peer-to-peer method. This means that you will meet so-called peer volunteers with their own lived experiences that are actively used in the conversations. It is a well-documented method that has been shown to create a positive effect. At headspace Family, we see that the vast majority of the relatives of a young person feel respected in the conversations and that they receive concrete suggestions for action.

We also find that the vast majority feel less alone when speaking with a peer volunteer.

“We know that parents and other family members often feel alone with their concerns and questions. With headspace Family, we want to create a safe and confidential space without waiting lists or documentation requirements. Our goal is to empower families to support the young person during a challenging time. To help the young person, the support system around them must work.”
